Our days generally begin the same every day of the week: hope that Cbear stays in his room (preferably NOT singing out loud in bed) until his alarm clock turns green, I get dressed then get Bbear dressed, and finally go to BGB’s room and get her dressed. After we are all dressed for the day, we head downstairs for a cartoon while I prepare breakfast.
This is where things get crazy.
The boys know that on non-preschool weekdays, they get to help make pancakes. They also know that on school days, we are often rushed to get out the door and it’s generally something quick – either reheated pancakes, cereal or waffles. Either way, we are usually a couple hours into our day before I realize I forgot to eat breakfast myself and grab a bowl of cereal or cold pancakes off one of the boys’ plates.

On our busy mornings, our go-to breakfast is cereal and fruit. The boys won’t eat the same type of fruit, but considering how picky 3 and 4 year old boys can be, I’ll take it! Cbear has been eating apples like he already knows an “apple a day keeps the doctor away” and Bbear loves most berries. As a special treat, and if they are on sale, I may offer a Kellogg’s Pop-tart or a Nutri Grain bar. In fact, these are items I often carry with me if we are going to eat a meal elsewhere and I’m not sure if the boys will eat.
Buy 4 Save $4
Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I ran over to Genuardi’s (a Safeway affiliate) to check out their Buy 4, Save $4 promotion. On the price tag, you’ll see the full price, the individual purchase sale price and the super-sale price if you buy 4 or more items that are part of the promotion. You can mix and match any 4 items to save $4 too! You can see my entire shopping experience by visiting my Google+ album.

Two of the fabulous deals we found were on cereal and juice, and a great selection from which to choose. We go through cereal like crazy and often stock up 5 to 10 boxes (yes, BOXES) at a time if the price is right. I don’t know about you, but finding boxes of cereal at $1.99 (Honey Nut Cheerios) and $1.79 (Rice Krispies) per box is a steal!

The juice, as I mentioned was also a great bargain. Typically, I purchase generic apple juice for the boys. However, one of the best deals was on Mott’s juice. At $1.49 a bottle, it’s fifty cents less than my generic bottle. If I had realized how much less expensive this sale price was versus my usual juice I would have purchase more than one bottle! So, I’m heading back this weekend to stock up.

My quick trip to the grocery store resulted in some great deals on name-brand breakfast goodies. My #BreakfastSavings really added up! I love seeing that Total Savings Value. Saving 41% makes me feel good about the money I spent!

Our On-the-Go Breakfasts
This was one of those mornings where I reheated pancakes. We didn’t have to rush off to preschool but we were off to a playdate so having the boys help make pancakes this morning wasn’t an option. Cbear loves his pancakes with syrup and a side of sliced apples. I’m pretty sure he ate 2 adult servings this morning.

Much to my surprise, and delight, Bbear polished off his pancakes and blueberries and then asked for more. So, I offered him the Dannon Oikos yogurt and he devoured that as well. Growing boys! I shudder to think about the teenage years!

Rise and Shine with Genuardi’s, and other participating Safeway stores – they have breakfast covered and you can too!

Great ideas for an on-the-go breakfast!!

Thank you! Feels like we are always on the move!
We’re often the same way, cereal or reheated pancakes and if we have time over the weekend my kids love to make their own granola and eat it with yogurt. I’ve found the best thing for our family has been not allowing tv in the morning before school. We have to be in the school gym at 8:20, so we have an early day & the mad dash gets chaotic if I’m fighting with the tv too!
Thanks for commenting! We’re only in preschool right now… I can’t imagine how pressed for time we will be when all 3 kids are in elementary school!
I love your YUM photo…so cute!

Thank you! It was late and I was just having a little fun (and snacking)!
My go-to hurried breakfast is bananas. Boring, usually brown, bland bananas. Yours sounds much better!

My younger son is a big banana fan! Though, he usually prefers them all yellow and flips if there is a little brown
My go-to breakfast is definitely yogurt – if we’re really rushed, then those squeeze tubes of yogurt! Granola bars also really are great.

Those squeeze tubes are so easy (and fun for the boys)! Granola bars are a great one to grab on the go as well!
